Affirm: I am present for others only after I take care of myself first.

We are living in the 9th month of this year. This year has felt like a blessing at times. And at other times, it has felt like someone has cursed the land and its people. Every day, no matter what is in store, I wake up and just say Thank You for life. Why? Because approaching each day with gratitude shifts the internal in positive ways.

So, as we start another month, I think it to be very beneficial to drop some reminders of self-care. It’s time to take the reins of your life and ensure you are mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually healthy.

That song gives so much peace and life. Replay is not a bad thing, indulge. Music helps to heal, center, and allow you to connect and flow. Feels amazing, right? It’s a beautiful booster mentally, spiritually, and emotionally.

Self-Care Tip: Every day play a song that speaks to you, energizes you, and reminds you of just how wonderful you are.

Self-care is so important. We forget how to be still. We forget how to heal. We forget that this body needs to rest, instead of always moving forward full speed ahead. This pushes us into setting habits of going with the motions day after day, while slowly disrupting the balance and rest that we need in our lives. We get into a routine and just burn out. Let’s agree that this is not healthy and commit right now to changing that. Not next week, right now!

Speaking of burnout, you know what else is vital? Quality sleep. Trust me, as a diagnosed insomniac, sleep is soooooo needed. It gives the body time to reset and recharge. Your mental processes are improved. Your physical appearance improves… less raccoon eye, please! Think about the feeling after you have had quality rest/sleep. It’s like the day is brighter. You’re happier, energized, and optimistic.

I love it. You can find it in your phone’s app store. The background images are breathtaking, beautiful, and peace inducing. It has sleep stories, music, ASMR, soundscapes, and meditations. Many celebrities have contributed with sleep stories and music, like Kelly Rowland, Lebron James, and Harry Styles. It’s refreshing.

Self-Care Tip: Get plenty of sleep. Don’t feel guilty. Your body needs it.

One more thing before I let you continue on with your lovely day, one of the biggest destroyers of self-care are the things we CHOOSE to invest in.

Here’s what I mean. How many times have you spent hours on social media fussing, criticizing, and becoming distracted in what drained you more than it improved your life? It happens often and many times people just don’t know it is happening because it is what? Routine. A Habit.

It’s time to break that habit. No, for real, it’s time. Beyond time. You know it, and I know it.

Habits need to be broken by monitoring the type of information we allow into our space, mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Reread that.

For example, watching the news reports daily and each time it airs has an impact. It can lead you into fear, into anxiety, and into lack of faith in humanity and growth. I challenge you to only indulge two times a week and once a day. You will notice a change. The majority of what’s reported is not very positive. By decreasing the intake, you remove the negative investment and replace it with something else, preferably something peaceful and encouraging.

Read a book. Take a walk. Work in your garden. Bake some cookies. Learn a new skill or craft. Get some sleep. Write a poem. Participate in empowering discussions with friends. Dance in your living room. Exercise. Enjoy a bubble bath. You get the point, make it positive.

Self-Care Tip: Remove the stressors. Remove the actions and behaviors that deposit more negativity in your life, rather than pouring positivity into your life.

I truly hope this reminds you to take back control of your life and make Self-Care a priority.
